Why You Need the Wilderness Survival Kit List Items

  1. First aid essentials.

Even when you are extra careful while camping or hiking, accidents occur. Whether it’s a splinter or a scrape, it is important that you treat all wounds immediately so they don’t get infected. Ideally, the first aid kit should contain bandages, antiseptic ointment, gauze, rubbing alcohol, and gloves. Tweezers and pain medication come in as extras but you’ll be better off if you have them. Always make sure that the first aid kit is placed in a waterproof compartment all the time.

  1. Survival rope

When stuck out there in the wilderness, you’ll realize how important a rope is. A rope is very important for your survival and comfort. You can do so many things with a rope. Some of the things you can use the rope for are building an emergency shelter, hoisting food away from animals, creating handles, tying poles together, climbing, hunting traps, and making splints for first aid.

  1. Survival knife

If you are an outdoor fanatic, a survival knife is a must-have tool in your wilderness survival gear. A knife by your side makes everything you are doing easier. You’ll also need a knife that’s both robust and sharp. Other than whittling or carving wood, a knife will help you cut a rope, creating bandages, starting fires, defending yourself from predators, building shelter, and cutting cloth among others.

  1. Disaster proof fire starter

When stuck in the woods, one thing that will be an absolute necessity is fire. You’ll need fire to stay warm at night, cook food and boil water. Since you’ll be creating it from scratch, you’ll need the following primary fire starters; waterproof matches, flint, lighter, and tinder.

  1. Navigation map

Out in the wilderness, you can’t rely on a GPS or phone signal to show you direction. This is where a navigation map comes in handy. You’ll have to depend on the map and compass to find your way out. You also need a compass.

  1. Food and water supply

You don’t know how long you’ll be stuck in the woods before you find your way out or get help. You’ll need enough food and water supplies to last you for at least 72+ hours. Keep a filter or purification tablet on hand in case the water you carried gets depleted. With food, focus on bringing high-calorie, pre-packed food.

  1. Safety clothes and survival shelter

Lastly, make sure that you have extra clothes to change. No matter how long the trip lasts, you’ll need to change your clothes at some point in time. Extra clothes can also be used to make water filters or be used as a pillow while sleeping.

Final Thought

Finally, don’t be caught in the wilderness without having something to use as shelter. A tent is the most common thing to carry. You can also add a sleeping bag, garbage blanket, and a space blanket.
